The AREA Day is an annual event in the context of which AREA Ruhr follows in the footsteps of East Asia in NRW. The Alliance for Research on East Asia (AREA) Ruhr is a joint academic institution of the Faculty of East Asian Studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) at the University of Duisburg-Essen as part of the University Alliance Ruhr.

The Alliance for Research on East Asia (AREA) Ruhr presents this year’s AREA Day 2025 – 80 Jahre Kriegsende in Ostasien (The 80th anniversary of the end of the war in East Asia) on May 17, 2025 from 2.00 to 5.45 PM at the NS-Dokumentationszentrum in Cologne.

The Alliance for Research on East Asia (AREA) Ruhr presents this year’s AREA Day 2025 – 80 Jahre Kriegsende in Ostasien (The 80th anniversary of the end of the war in East Asia) on May 17, 2025 from 2.00 to 5.45 PM at the NS-Dokumentationszentrum in Cologne.


After an exclusive curator’s tour through the Asia chapter of the exhibition “The Third World in World War II” by Mr. Kurt Rössel at the NS-Dokumentationszentrum of the City of Cologne, representatives of AREA Ruhr will come together at a roundtable to discuss why the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in East Asia is a key topic for understanding today’s political, economic and social developments in the region in terms of historical politics and the culture of remembrance.

Because of limited capacity, both parts of the event require separate prior registrations. Registration forms as well as further information on both parts of the event are available on the AREA Ruhr homepage (linked below). Registrations are open until May 16, 2025, 12 PM and while the ticket stock lasts.
