Research & Course Development

As the full name “Hanmun Lab: Center for the Digital Study of Pre-modern Korean Writing Systems and Texts” indicates, the Hanmun Lab is dedicated to fostering digitally assisted research and teaching on pre-modern Korean writing systems and texts. The main focus of our research and development efforts is on hanmun and hanmun texts, but Middle Korean and other writing systems and texts are also treated.

During an initial six years period of generous support by VolkswagenStiftung, we focus on two major course development & research projects:

• Project I: “Implementation of hanmun and Middle Korean online/blended learning courses”
• Project II: “Computer-assisted analyses of Buddhist hanmun texts from Silla and their impact on Tang dynasty Chinese Buddhism”
