Daniel Wollnik (Department of Japanese History) was awarded the Martin-Behaim-Prize of the Gesellschaft für Globalgeschicht on June 20, 2025. The prize honors outstanding dissertations in the field of global history as well as non-European history. The dissertation submitted and defended in 2024 is entitled “‘Im Dienste der Allgemeinheit’: Das Kommunikationsministerium (Teishinshō) und die Mobilisierung der japanischen Nation für den totalen Krieg (1931-1945)” [“‘In the Service of the Public’: The Ministry of Communications (Teishinshō) and the Mobilisation of the Japanese Nation for Total War (1931-1945)”]. It is a contribution to Japanese political and bureaucratic history.
